From being a child I have always seen corruption, bribing and tips in my day to day life. Many times I have felt this is how it is. Just getting 100 or 1000 Rs is not big and its not a point of concern. It took sometime for me to understand it is those small amounts which became the seed for bigger corruptions. And after seeing all these big level scams, I always felt why not those Heroes in the movies descend in real life and some miracle happens... Just like any Indian.
And something similar is happening now. I am not saying Anna Hazare is the great hero but it is the people who are the hero and Anna is uniting everyone from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. I havent seen a single voice coming out of every indian in my entire lifetime. People are so frustrated with all the recent corruptions and they were controlling their anger in them and busting out during get-togethers and colleges and schools. Anna has helped everyone to bring this topic out of boardroom to the open arena. And to influence so many people, you need to be a person of impeccable integrity, unquestionable principles, proof that you could change the system and still being popular among the right people. Everyone knew this and no one (including me) is not fit for this. But Anna Hazare is.
And there are lot of debates about the ways adopted by Anna, whether his movement is unconstitutional and whether he is blackmailing the government. True, even I have reservations towards the bill drafted by the Civil society and even I dont accept 100% that the Jan Lokpal bill be passed by Aug30th. And I too believe that JanLokPal is not a magic wand which ends the corruption and makes India a developed country immediately. But still I support the movement full heartedly. Reason: There is no better alternative. Can anyone give a better alternative which will generate massive support from the people and still following the entire parliamentary procedures and respecting every elected representative and still produce some DAMN GOOD RESULT? I dont think anyone has an answer for it. Also, if the current constitution cannot understand people's mind, then its the constitution which needs to be amended. After all, the constitution is for the people, by the people and to the people.
Also, one should not forget that Anna came out of the fast after government assured that a LokPal bill will be passed by August 15th. From then on, there were many meetings, government trying to divert people's attention and coming up with multiple drafts and ignored Civil Society's concerns and bill. From then on, I could see that Team Anna was almost pleading to every Parliamentarian giving respect to the elected representatives and parliamentary processes. Result of all those: A big zero.
And along with Team Anna, people were also very much frustrated. And what you see now is the outcome of those frustrations. There could be some flaws in the Govt's bill and JanLokpal bill. The Parliament should try to fix those flaws amend the bill correctly such that it should benefit everyone and not only the politicians. The Government bill does not cover lower rank officers and thats whom the common man will interact with. If the common man does not get any benefit then what is even the use of the bill. The government should open their minds, think the future of their kids, their grandsons and daughters and provide them a good society in the future.
I wish the government comes up with a solution which is agreeable to everyone as fast as possible before his health deteriorates anymore. If anything wrong happens, the government cannot control the protests anymore and India could become the next Egypt.
The people of India need to be strong with a never give up attitude at this time. Its very crucial to have a strong bill passed. Also, I pray for Anna's health. He needs to be fit to see and enjoy the fruit of all his hardwork. And people, it just does not stop with JanLokPal Bill. To weed out corruption, unquality and to have an effective governance lot more needs to be done (election reforms, selection process for govt officials, modernization / automation of govt machinery, education reforms etc..). And the people of India should continue this protest in the most peaceful way possible.
Its definitely the SECOND FREEDOM STRUGGLE and its not going to end soon.
